Sadly most people will be affected by Cancer at some point in their lives.  Either by having known friends or had family members who have been affected by it.

Its plays on our greatest fears and unless you have been touched by it its very difficult to explain how deeply it touches everyone around you.

I have had one friend die of cancer in my lifetime and my mothers had two best friends died of cancer.  I watched while she nursed them right at the end.

Its not a laughing matter and something that most people take very seriously.

Seriously enough to not ever question whether anyone would possible have it. 

When faced with being told that our loved ones have cancer, our immediate reaction is usually shock and then worrying about how long they might have and more importantly what can we do to help them. 

Oliver had cancer when we met after a few months.  A small lump on his head which turned out to be malignant after I found it and advised him to go to hospital.  He was saved by an operation or or so it seemed.  With a family history of breast cancer, as far as I was aware, when he developed a rare throat cancer a year after having the lump removed I was devastated.  It was at a time when I should have left him, and yet I still loved him and felt extremely guilty and chose to stay with him especially when he cried and begged me not to leave.  Fortunately he went into remission.  As you will find out when you read Dark Souls nothing could be further from the truth. 

Sadly the fear of losing a person that is diagnosed with a life threatening illness like cancer is something that these predators can play on. They play on our greatest fears which can then turn into our worst nightmare.
